Glaivier PvP Guide

Introduction

The Glaivier is Lost Ark's specialized lance class that has two distinct weapons. Swap to a short spear in Flurry stance to perform precise lethal attacks or bring out the glaive in Focus stance for a more aggressive style. Knowing when to swap stances is the key to wreaking havoc on the proving grounds.

This class ranks decently high on the overall PvP tier list for Team Deathmatch (3v3). With her high Push Immunity, mobility and quick crowd control she can be quite a presence to deal with in the field. Although she has had several small nerfs, she still has quite a reputation with her big AoE skills and fast damaging combos. If you like playing aggressively, this is the class for you.

This article assumes you have a Character with a minimum level of 26 before transitioning to it. Check out the Glaivier Leveling and 1-50 Leveling guides to reach Level 26.

Check out the General PvP Guide and the Ranked PvP Guide for a better understanding of the arena systems in place.

Core Skills

  • Chain Slash is a mobility skill that also has a Knockdown attached at the end. Use it for combo extension or mobility.
  • Flash Kick is a quick engaging Hard Crowd Control skill. Don't be afraid to use it for mobility if necessary. With the recent patch, this skill loses Paralysis Immunity on the skill, making it a bit unsafe when trying to engage with it. I would recommend combining this skill with another catch skill like Cutting Wind for combo extensions. You can still use this skill as an engage, but try not to be too predictable with it.
  • Vault is another quick engage tool that Knocks Up opponents.
  • Half Moon Slash is an engage, combo and peel tool. It's a great skill to setup your hard hitting combos.
  • Raging Dragon Slash is your main DPS skill in Focus stance. Use it after Half Moon Slash as they are falling down or off any CCs.
  • Wheel of Blades is a great Push Immunity skill used to lock opponents or Knock them down.
  • Spear Dive is a nice filler skill for brawls and protection. It has a Knockdown at the end of the combo.
  • Cutting Wind is a quick catch tool. Combine this with your spacebar or another mobility skill for easy catches.
  • Thrust of Destruction is a quick filler damage skill.
  • Starfall Pounce is another engage/mobility skill in Flurry stance. You are not protected when jumping so be careful.
  • Dragonscale Defense is your counter skill in Flurry stance that Stuns foe when countered. Note that this skill does not have Hard Crowd Control immunity like Gunlancer's counter.
  • Red Dragon's Horn similar to Raging Dragon Slash is mainly used off a combo or if they are stuck on the ground.
  • Yeon-Style Spear Technique: Storming Red Dragon is the main Awakening skill. Hold it to channel it longer. At the end of the barrage, it has a dash and Knockup attached to it. Useful for either catching someone or getting away.

  2. Follow with Flash Kick.
  3. Finish with Raging Dragon Slash.

Note: The same combo as Basic Combo #1, but with another finisher.

Gameplay

  • Don't worry so much about maximizing your Identity Gauge, as most of the time you'll be rapidly switching between stances.
  • You have a lot of engage options, but the main ones are Starfall Pounce, Vault, Cutting Wind and Flash Kick.
  • With many engage and mobility options, your role plays similarly to many of the brawler/fighter classes in the game. Engage in and cause havoc.
  • Wheel of Blades is best used when in the middle of the fight or as a defensive response.
  • Be sure to be quick on the Dragonscale Defense, it's a crucial skill to not waste in combat.
  • Remember to quickly switch up targets and try not to tunnel on one player. This class has a lot of outplay potential and catches that make it really hard to react to.
  • Yeon-Style Spear Technique: Storming Red Dragon can be insta-casted for the quick dash/Knockup or fully channeled for a bit more damage/protection. It's your call based on the situation.

GvG
Heavy Armor
Strong Will
Fortitude Control

Gameplay

GvG is more chaotic than Arena battles, so you rarely have the opportunity to do long combos. This mode is more about zoning/interrupting objectives and assisting allies. Do your best to coordinate with your team and stick together. Refer to 3v3 section for more gameplay tips.

Engravings + Items

  • Spirit Absorption is a good engraving to boost your speed and survivability.
  • Cursed Doll is a great damage engraving.
  • Strong Will is a great engraving for survivability.
  • Awakening is another good option for damage. Extra awakening usage for objectives can be useful, especially if you're running high Specialization.
  • Raid Captain is a good engraving for speed stacking users.
  • Brass Champion's Crest is a great item for survivability. To get this, farm Coin of Courage from PvP games modes (3v3, 1v1, FFA). Note this does not work in those game modes.
Heavy Armor Equipment
Spirit Absorption
Judgment

There are no actual combos listed here compare to the other PvP builds because the build is built around zoning/interrupting objectives and mostly assisting allies. Since there will be more than 8 enemies on the field, it'll be really hard to pull off a long combo with many spells and attacks being unleash on the field.

Basically, use the skills base on the situations. Holy Land, can be use for annoying enemies on the objectives as it can prevent enemies from trying to capture the objectives by interrupting the capturing animation from the damage ticks that the ground effect does, and it helps in mass fights were the enemies can't stand on top of your allies for more than 3 ticks before they get stun by the skill.

GvG can be a lot more chaotic than Arenas as theres more than 3 opponents rushing into the fight, Paladin's role usually be sticking close to the backlines or allies immobile range classes to assist them if they get group on, while also play around from their range since the build is kitted with more range skills than Arena builds.

GvG Engraving

Priority

  • Heavy Armor Equipment-engraving] level 3 increases all defense for higher survivability. Moreover, armor shredding debuffs doesn't affect the bonus defense increase effect from the engraving.
  • Spirit Absorption increases attack speed and movement speed by a significant amount at level3 engraving effect which will help with positioning and getting skills cast out quicker.
  • Judgment level 1 increases duration of Sacred Executioner by 100% to 40 seconds. Additionally increases sword skills damage and identity gauge gain rate.

Additional Choices

  • Cursed Doll since Cursed Doll doesn't affect a player character, this is the next best engraving for damage increase in general. Furthermore, Island PvP disables consumables so the penalty isn't too penalizing and GvGs consumables are very limited as well which eventually player will run out consumables quick as well.
  • Divine Protection, Fortitude and Strong Will these are the engravings to stack for maximum defenses.
  • Raid Captain is also another good damage engraving option for Island PvP and GvGs since players will be stacking high Swiftness stats for having fast animation casting speed and general movespeed as well as more cooldown reductions then stacking with Spirit Absorption will max out 140% movesment speed cap which will grant the max 18% damage increase from Raid Captain.
  • Champion's Tenacity Island PvP with disabled consumables and the very limited amount of consumables in GvGs means a lot of the time the player spent being damaged and unable to heal up, so this engraving will help give some boost to damage while the player is below 50% health pool.
  • Shield Piercing self-explanatory; usually well coordinated guilds will stack lots of classes that has team shield or personal shields, this engraving will help a little from shield stack pushes.
